Waterlab is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Laboratory Internship in Microbiology, which is based in Pretoria, Gauteng. Only candidates who are shortlisted will be contacted.

Waterlab is a service laboratory that specializes in analytical chemistry and provides services in the various disciplines of water, potable water, supply, sewage treatment, industrial effluents, acid mine drainage and underground water.    

As part of Waterlab’ s corporate strategy to develop employable resources, the company is introducing an opportunity for a  qualifying student to participate in an internship program to enable them to complete their qualifications.    

South African students who have completed their theory and laboratory studies at a recognized tertiary educational institution and who require Work Integrated Learning (in service training) to be able to complete their qualification in Microbiology, would be considered.  

Applicants should not have previous working experience or have participated in any internship program before.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed theoretical component (S4) of the National Diploma in:
    -Microbiology
    -Water Science
    -Biotechnology
  • Confirmation letter from your learning institution for Work Integrated Learning (also known as: experiential learning / in-service training / P1)
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Computer literate (MS Office)

Recommended Competencies / Skills Inter:

  • Analytical and Conscientious with a strong focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Problem solving ability should be well honed
  • Ability to work in a team

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • To register for the practical component of the qualification with the relevant institution.
  • To update the learner guide and all related training documents and submit to the relevant institution.
  • To assist in sample preparation, sample collection and analysis.
  • To assist in interpretation, documentation and recording of results.
  • To monitor stock levels
  • To adhere to standards and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) as well as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP standards.
