VACANCY: INTERNAL AUDIT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (X 2 POSITIONS)

Internship overview: The internship programme is a structured professional training and work experience programme with the goal of providing high quality training and practical exposure in all aspects of internal audit and the underlying reforms. The programme has a logical training sequence that builds on the skills and competencies acquired during university training.
Requirements:
- National Diploma in Internal Auditing/Accounting.
- Knowledge of the standards for the professional practice in Internal Auditing and the code of ethics developed by the institute of Internal Auditors.
- The candidate must have an excellent analytical, creative thinking, independent and innovative ability.
- The ability to maintain good relations with clients and willingness to travel within the District.
- The programme is aimed at unemployed graduates.
Key performance areas:
- Conducts Audits of processes, systems and procedures, by requesting specific records
and relating to the functional area for the purposes of the audit. - Analyzing system applications and performing audit tests to check for conformity and consistency.
- Obtaining evidence, extracting information and/ or documents relating to the process and/ or observing work sequence to assess procedural application.
- Comparing evidence against procedures and systems to establish occurrences of deviations.
- Compiling the audit programme detailing audit procedures and tests and forwarding for approval and discussion on the implementation.
- Preparing reports detailing outcomes/ observations of completed audits, by referring to working papers and compiling a schedule of findings with respect to the audit process. Identifying weaknesses in the system or procedure referring to specific observations of applications or information elicited through interviews or analyses.
- Formulating recommendations to address system and procedural weaknesses.
- Submitting and discussing the schedule of findings with the immediate superior prior to preparing draft reports.
- Correcting specific inclusions of the draft and resubmitting for approval and compilation of final reports.
- Monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of the approved.
- Recommendations through consultation with the functional area and comparative studies of processes.

VACANCY: MUNICIPAL FINANCE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (X 1 POSITION)

Internship overview: The internship programme is a structured professional training and work experience programme with the goal of providing high quality training and practical exposure in all aspects of a Municipal Budget and Treasury Office which is governed by the Municipal Finance Management Act and the underlying reforms. The programme has a logical training sequence that builds on the skills and competencies acquired during university training. It ends where appropriate, with a qualification in Municipal finance Management which is in line with the Municipal Minimum Competency Regulations. The programme is aimed at unemployed
graduates.
Requirements:
- The applicant must be in possession of: a Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in Accounting, Economics or Finance including risk management and/or Auditing and Taxation, among others.
- The interns will sign an internship agreement which is in addition to the employment contract.
- The effect of the agreement is to ensure commitment to the programme which requires full participation in the educational, workplace assignments and observance of policies and procedures.
- The candidate must have excellent prioritising and ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment.
Key performance areas:
- Applies instructions to support the preparation of budgets and financial statements by accessing system information, performing calculations and adjustment to entries, reconciling and consolidating accounting transactional information, preparing and submitting schedules and attending to the collation of general information for specific reporting purposes in order to ensure timelines and requirements for presenting information is conformed with.
- Checking expenditure and income transactional information reflected on ledger
reports and, extracting and referring queries for the attention of the immediate superior. - Updating specific fields of the consolidated budget information system and applying formulae to calculate expenditure and income trends.
- Attending to adjustments of calculations based on comments received from the immediate superior.
- Updating income and expenditure information against budgetary provisions, referring to specific recordings/ posting of transactions.
- Reconciling and consolidating of transactional information, cross checking totals and entries and submitting for verification.
- Processing adjustments/ journals and applying procedures in respect of balancing income and expenditure ledgers.

VACANCY: LEGAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (X 1 POSITION)

Internship overview: The internship programme is a structured professional training and work experience programme with the goal of providing high quality training and practical exposure within the legal and municipal environment. The programme has a logical training sequence that builds on the skills and competencies acquired during university training. The programme is aimed at unemployed law (LLB) graduates.
Requirements:
- The successful candidate must be in possession of a recognised LLB Degree.
- Valid driver’s license is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to work effectively within a team, strong administration skills and good attention to detail and independent thinking.
- Excellent time management skills and strong organizational skills.
- Computer literacy. Willingness to learn and to do legal research.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- The successful candidate must ensure precision in their work, respect strict confidentiality requirements, organising and classification skills are key.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation applicable to local government and the ability to interpret statutes.
- An understanding of applying legal proceedings.
Key performance areas:
- The successful candidate will be responsible in assisting to provide effective and efficient compliance support to the Head of Legal and Compliance.
- Assist to peruse prepare and draft all kinds legal documents viz.
- Letters, Contracts and legal opinions.
- Ensuring that the municipality is aware of new legal directives and providing verbal and written legal opinions on a variety of matters.
- Conducting research on relevant laws, regulations and legal articles.
- Investigation of cases.
- Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing systems.
- Assist with drafting of new and amending of existing policies and procedures.
