Note: This opportunity is not open to candidates who have previously participated in an internship programme lasting more than 12 months.

Internship Overview

This 24-month Graduate Internship is structured to provide hands-on experience in library and information services or financial administration within the library context. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, contributing to various library operations while developing critical workplace skills. The programme aims to equip the intern with practical knowledge, enhance their professional competencies, and prepare them for future career opportunities in library and information services or related fields.

Requirements

To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Minimum Qualification
  • NQF Level 6 Diploma in Library and Information Studies or a Finance-related qualification.
    Candidates must have successfully completed their diploma at a recognized institution, with certified copies of qualifications submitted as part of the application.
Required Skills and Attributes
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to support administrative and operational tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with library users, colleagues, and stakeholders professionally.
  • Writing Skills: Ability to draft clear, concise, and professional documents, including reports, emails, and other correspondence.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for accuracy in handling library records, financial data, or administrative tasks.
  • Teamwork and Adaptability: A collaborative mindset with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively within a team.
  • Passion for Learning: A proactive attitude toward professional development and a willingness to acquire new skills in a library or financial administration setting.
Responsibilities

The Graduate Intern will be involved in a range of tasks, which may include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the management and organization of library resources, including cataloguing, shelving, and inventory management.
  • Supporting library users by addressing inquiries, providing guidance on resource access, and promoting information literacy.
  • Contributing to administrative tasks, such as data entry, report generation, and financial record-keeping within the library’s operations.
  • Participating in library events, workshops, or outreach programmes to enhance user engagement and community involvement.
  • Collaborating with library staff to ensure efficient workflows and high-quality service delivery.
  • Undertaking any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the library’s objectives.
