
Soul City Institute (SCI) invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for two Social Mobiliser positions available in South Africa. The vacancies are located in the Free State province, specifically in Botshabelo Local Area at Botshabelo Village near Itumeleng Clinic, and in Limpopo province within the Vhembe District, covering Makhuvele, Nkavele, Saselamani, Nhlengani/Nsimbhi and Nghezimane villages. Both roles are fixed-term assignments, with the Free State position running until 31 December 2026 and the Limpopo position ending on 30 November 2026. Successful applicants will report directly to a Programmes Officer

Purpose of the Role
The Social Mobiliser position exists to assist and support the Programmes Officer in implementing strategy developed by the National Department of Health (NDOH) and Soul City Institute at both district and provincial level. The role is centred on achieving youth programme objectives, with particular emphasis on coordinating and monitoring HAST (HIV, AIDS, STIs and TB) youth-related project plans, alongside the implementation of Soul Buddyz Clubs across the relevant districts.
Key Responsibilities
Demand Creation
- Support the HAST, Maternal, Child and Women’s Health (MCWH), and Health Promotion (HP) teams in educating young people on sexual and reproductive health (SRH), HIV prevention, and gender-based violence prevention
- Support the mobilisation of youth through calendar events for HIV testing and other SRH services, including PrEP uptake
- Help create demand and awareness through community events, radio shows, outreach programmes, and other platforms across different settings
- Conduct health talks and community dialogues in selected facilities in support of HAST/MCWH/HP youth programmes
- Distribute Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on a continuous basis to young people
- Support the District Department of Education with rolling out Soul Buddyz Clubs in the district and province
Coordination and Monitoring of Projects
Soul Buddyz Clubs
- Implement recruitment and registration of Soul Buddyz Clubs
- Implement Raising Voices coalition advocacy with provincial and local government
- Collect attendance registers and registration forms from clubs
- Distribute relevant tools to clubs
- Ensure allocated clubs meet weekly and report attendance appropriately as required by Soul City
- Develop monthly and quarterly club activities in consultation with the Programme Officer
- Hold weekly face-to-face and remote coaching sessions twice a month with club members
- Document all coaching sessions and other club activities
- Identify challenges affecting participation and implement interventions to mitigate dropouts
- Track attendance of club activities by members
- Ensure clubs maintain social media action and visibility
- Prepare and submit monthly progress reports
Youth Zones and AYFS
- Support the AYFS Champion in implementing the Youth Zone programme in identified health facilities, using the AYFS monitoring tool
- Track information on clients referred for comprehensive SRH services, screened, offered, and initiated on PrEP
- Support organisation of youth campaign events in the district based on the NDoH calendar, mobilising youth to access SRH services (one per quarter)
- Ensure data collected meets required M&E standards set by Soul City and the Department of Health
- Collate captured data into a monthly report using agreed M&E templates
- Capture visual and audio footage of activities and share with the communication department for posting
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to immediate supervisors
Stakeholder Management
- Identify key stakeholders who can contribute to meeting club objectives
- Network with local stakeholders to support and profile the work of the clubs
- Facilitate club meetings with key decision-makers
General Duties
- Prepare reports as and when required in the correct templates
- Work closely with the Programme Officer to ensure club activities integrate seamlessly into Soul City programmes
- Identify innovative ways and opportunities to meet programme objectives
- Monitor and track club member participation and mitigate against dropout
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Matric qualification required; a post-matric qualification is advantageous
- Experience and understanding of gender, children and young women sector issues is essential
- At least two years’ experience in community development or activism
- Understanding of advocacy work
- Demonstrated commitment to activism for gender equality
