Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this position is to perform general forestry duties as assigned by management. Tasks include plantation establishment, maintenance activities, fire prevention measures, and other operational responsibilities necessary for the successful management of forestry plantations.

Successful candidates will support operational teams by completing assigned duties efficiently while maintaining safety and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be expected to perform a variety of operational duties, including but not limited to:

  • Site clearing before plantation establishment.
  • Slash burning where required and approved.
  • Preparing planting pits.
  • Planting seedlings according to operational guidelines.
  • Carrying out weeding operations.
  • Slashing unwanted vegetation.
  • Spraying approved herbicides where applicable.
  • Hoeing around planted areas.
  • Preparing fire belts through hoeing and controlled burning.
  • Participating in firefighting activities during and after normal working hours when required.
  • Remaining on fire standby during and after working hours.
  • Assisting with road maintenance within plantation areas.
  • Completing additional operational duties assigned by management.

These duties are essential to maintaining healthy forestry plantations and ensuring efficient production throughout the year.

Working Environment

The positions are based in a forestry plantation environment where work is performed outdoors under varying weather conditions. Employees may be required to work in hot, cold, wet, or dusty environments depending on operational requirements.

The role involves manual labour and requires physical fitness to perform daily forestry activities such as planting, clearing vegetation, road maintenance, and fire prevention work.

During the fire season, employees may also be required to participate in emergency firefighting activities and remain available for fire standby outside normal working hours.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 7 qualification.
  • Previous experience in a forestry environment will be an added advantage.

Although previous forestry experience is beneficial, applications from individuals who meet the minimum educational requirement and are willing to learn are also encouraged.
