SAA Technical Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme 2026

South African Airways Technical (SAAT) is inviting young, passionate South African citizens to apply for the 2026 Technical Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme. This programme offers structured theoretical and practical training in approved aviation trades such as Aircraft Welding, Aircraft Spray Painting, Aircraft Trimming, and Aircraft Composite Structures, based in Kempton Park, Gauteng, with the aim of developing skilled artisans who meet industry and regulatory standards.

Applicants must have Grade 12 (Matric) with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics and Physical Science, or an N3 Certificate with 50% in Mathematics and Engineering Science. Trades Offered

Applicants may choose two trades in order of preference:

1. Aircraft Welding

Welding and repairing aircraft and engine components, plasma spraying, heat treatment, and manufacturing of parts/tooling.

2. Aircraft Spray Painting

Corrosion prevention, repairing paint coatings, applying protective coatings, and painting aircraft interiors and exteriors.

3. Aircraft Trimming

Manufacturing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining aircraft interiors and survival equipment.

4. Aircraft Composite Structures

Manufacturing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining aircraft composite components.

Minimum Requirements
Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)
  • 50% or Level 4 in Pure Mathematics
  • 50% or Level 4 in Physical Science
  • English (symbol required)

OR

Option 2: N3 Certificate
  • 50% pass in Mathematics
  • 50% pass in Engineering Science
Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to read and write in English (essential)
  • Basic understanding of technical/mechanical concepts (advantageous)
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Good communication skills
