Job Summary
Indalo Inclusive is seeking a motivated and dynamic Project Intern to support the coordination and implementation of a project under the Just Energy Transition portfolio. This position is project-based and will run for a 12-month period, with the intern stationed at the DARDLEA offices.
Over the past few years, Indalo’s work has expanded significantly, particularly within South Africa’s Just Energy Transition landscape. As part of this growth, the organisation is strengthening its institutional capacity to effectively deliver on existing commitments while positioning itself to attract new funding and partnership opportunities both nationally and regionally. The Project Intern will play a key support role in coordinating project activities, stakeholder engagements, reporting, and administrative functions under the ClimateWorks Foundation-supported programme.
The intern will work closely with Indalo Inclusive project team and Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA) officials to support day-to- day implementation, coordination of meetings and workshops, tracking of deliverables, stakeholder communication, data collection, and reporting. The role offers practical exposure to project Implementation, government collaboration, and multi- stakeholder coordination within the Just Energy Transition context.
This position is ideal for a candidate interested in climate change, sustainable development, public sector coordination, and who is eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and policy-relevant environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Undergraduate Qualification (Diploma or Bachelors) in the field of Environmental Studies or Social Sciences or related fields.
- Only residents of Mpumalanga will be taken into consideration.
- Understanding climate change will be an added advantage.
- Must have at least professional work experience in project planning and coordination support.
- Experience working in public sector will be an added advantage.
- Must have at least 12 months’ experience in project administration and logistic support.
- Must have excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- Must be willing and available to travel locally if required.
- Must be able to work in a small multicultural team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administration
- Provide overall project administrative support and maintain effective administrative structures and processes in accordance with Indalo policies.
- Coordinate, maintain and update project activities and ensure timely execution of project activities within agreed timeframes according to project workplans.
- Assist with managing internal projects’ deadlines for reporting purposes and for the purpose of keeping projects documentation up to date.
- Be responsible for notes taking in meetings and pictorial documentation to support adequate reporting for the projects’ activities including consolidating documentation for reporting.
- Provide support for workshops and activities per project expectations.
Travel
- Coordinate all travel and accommodation requirements for beneficiaries, consultants, Indalo team etc.
- Ensure that all travel arrangements and claims meet the standards and requirements as set in the Indalo Travel Policy.
Document management and record keeping
- Ensure efficient record keeping and filing of all relevant material.
Events management
- Provide administrative support in organizing a series of training activities.
- Climate change forums, workshops or knowledge sharing sessions convened and facilitated.
- Organise and facilitate preparations, logistical, secretarial, and other arrangements for meetings, workshops, etc.
- Contribute to successful execution of all events hosted by Indalo by following standard operating procedures for event management.
Communication
- Liaise with project partners.
- Support with the development of communication material.
- Identify networking opportunities for purposes of expanding Indalo activities or programmes.
Projects support
- Prepare supporting documents to accompany narrative donor report.
- Be available to support offsite projects during project implementation where necessary or required.
- Support Climate Change and Just transition Awareness and capacity building to stakeholders conducted and facilitated.
- Review Provincial and Municipal Plans and Strategies to mainstream climate change and just transition into planning and project implementation.
- Coordination and facilitation of funding and financing for Climate Change, Adaptation-Mitigation for Climate Change.
Technical Support
- Support with monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- Support with research and developing case studies.
