Data Analyst Internship – 12 Months Contract
Purpose
The internship is a structured work-based program, affording unemployed graduates work experience in our company. The successful applicants will enter into a 12-month fixed term Internship agreement (not an employment contract) with the company and receive a stipend.
Are you passionate about using data to challenge the norm? Internal Audit is looking for a strong data analytics individual to join the Internal Audit team. The Internal Audit team assists the organisation in maintaining effective controls by assessing the reliability of financial reports, monitoring the company’s compliance with laws and regulations, and advising management on developing smart control solutions. We’re looking for a detail-oriented team player who has an interest in Insurance products and wants to gain insight into the company’s operations and control processes.
The Data Analytics team-members leverage their programming and advanced analytics skillsets to work closely with the auditors and develop data-centric analysis and testing strategies that derive insight and help the Internal Audit team to better understand the company’s unique processes and controls.
Responsibilities
- Extract data from the company’s data warehouse, profile the data to identify key features, patterns and outliers; and performing scenario-based testing.
- Assess the quality of data extracted to understand potential limitations or issues.
- Review SQL code to identify sources of data and the accuracy and completeness thereof.
- Understand and provide guidance on the appropriateness of individual access to data.
- Develop and maintain Management Information Systems in order to streamline and drive automated reporting.
- Develop visualisation analytics and reporting to present scenarios from the data; both at a high level to highlight potential risks and at a detailed level to enable root cause analyses.
- Assist the Internal Auditors by using hands-on analysis of company data and providing insights from this.
- Help the Internal Audit team understand the data tools, approaches and infrastructure available to them.
- Work with the Internal Audit team to build strategic self-service data products that enable the team to more efficiently and effectively work with company data and identify potential risks.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Engineering, Informatics or equivalent
- Knowledge of any programming language with a willingness to learn SQL programming.
- Knowledge of visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of analytical/statistical programming such as Python, R, or SAS would be beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral). Ability to communicate what is relevant and important in a clear and concise manner.
- Drive and Motivation. Ability to handle multiple tasks and takes initiative to improve their own performance.
- Creativity/Innovation. Ability to create new ways to improve current processes and develop solutions that are grounded in reality and have practical value.

Compliance Internship – 12 Month Contract
Job Description
To monitor and provide assurance on the adherence to compliance practices throughout the OUTsurance Southern Africa Operations to ensure compliance risks are managed and reported across the organisation.
Key output
- Assist with monitoring compliance risks and determining the state of compliance in various business units.
- Assist with ensuring that all regulatory and compliance risks are identified, managed, mitigated and reported on.
- Assist with ensuring that the compliance monitoring plan is executed.
- Recording of non-compliance matters identified and follow through on the agreed recommendations.
- Foster and maintain a good working relationship with internal stakeholders and contribute meaningfully in these engagements.
- Collaborate with Combined Assurance departments (Risk Management, Internal Audit and Quality Assurance) when conducting monitoring to ensure there is no duplication of efforts and improve efficiencies and that compliance issues are raised to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
- Provide input and ensure accurate reporting and articulation of compliance risks.
- Provide advice and/or input to internal stakeholders on possible contraventions of compliance risks through early detection.
ADHOC DUTIES
The following are duties you may be requested to perform as and when business needs require.
- Providing support on legislative compliance matters and to assist with the implementing, development and maintaining of the Compliance Risk Management Framework.
- Analyse current and forthcoming regulations, proposals and legislation and provide meaningful, detailed analysis.
- Providing support to Compliance Officers in responding to compliance matters and resolving queries.
- Assist Compliance Officers to draft input in order to influence proposed legislative changes and projects initiated by the regulators and industry bodies.

The Risk and Compliance department requires an intern to support and assist the current Occupational Health and Safety Team with day-to-day activities. The ideal candidates must have a passion for people and delivering awesome service in a deadline orientated environment.
This program gives graduates workplace experience or an opportunity to practice the work skills that they have studied and will practice in order to assist them in the future in their chosen occupations. This is a learning opportunity for a graduate that has a passion for Occupational Health and Safety and would like to gain experience in order to pursue a career in this field.
