About the Position

The SHEQ Manager plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that the business operates in accordance with internationally recognized standards, legal requirements, and customer expectations. The position focuses on developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving systems related to Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, Food Safety, and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) compliance.

The successful candidate will oversee quality assurance, environmental compliance, food safety systems, risk management, contractor management, audit preparation, and continuous improvement projects. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, customers, suppliers, auditors, and regulatory authorities.

The position is suited to an experienced professional who enjoys driving operational excellence while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to perform a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:

Management Systems
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve integrated management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Manage Food Safety Management Systems and FSSC requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor legal and statutory compliance across all operations.
  • Ensure customer requirements are consistently achieved.
Audits and Compliance

The SHEQ Manager will coordinate and manage all internal and external audits while ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.

Responsibilities include:

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in Quality or Food Safety.
  • An Engineering qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience

Candidates should possess between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience, including:

  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of integrated management systems.
  • Managing systems across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Experience managing multiple facilities will be advantageous.
  • Experience supervising multiple quality laboratories.
  • Managing employees at different organisational levels.
  • Working with the Department of Labour and other government departments.
  • Experience within an FMCG or packaging manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Practical experience conducting risk assessments.
