MISA invites applications for the Young Graduate Programme Internship (Ref No: YG 01/2025/26), offering opportunities for unemployed South African graduates in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Town and Regional Planning. The programme is designed to provide structured workplace training, professional development, and practical experience through deployment and rotation within district municipalities and private sector partners across all nine provinces.

The internship runs for a minimum duration of 36 months, supporting graduates towards professional registration with the relevant statutory bodies. The stipend for the programme is currently listed as TBD. MISA is a Schedule 3 government component of the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) established in terms of Section 7(5) of the Public Service Act of 1994 (as amended), with the mandate to provide technical support and build technical capacity for municipalities to enhance their capability to undertake efficient planning, delivery, operations and management of municipal infrastructure.

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) hereby offers opportunities for internship programmes aimed at facilitating achievement of qualified technical specialists to enhance municipal technical capacities.

Please see detailed below and shall commence from 2024/25 financial year to the required periods as per detailed Programme descriptions below.

Successful Candidates will be placed in identified Municipalities depending on the needs and the capacity of Municipalities to expose and give the relevant practical experience to the candidates’ choice of disciplines.

Programme Overview

The Young Graduate Programme is a two-to-three-year programme aimed towards professional registration as professional technicians, technologists and engineers in terms of approved regulatory and professional bodies frameworks including Act 36 of 2002 and Engineering Profession Act No 46 of 2000 and the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN).

MISA is one of the national government entities mandated to improve access to basic services. The programme is aimed at supporting municipalities and giving graduates structured workplace experience.

The recruitment is targeting cohort for the 2025/2026 financial year. Successful candidates will enter into a four-year internship contract as determined by the requirement of the specific discipline.

MISA is operating for the duration of the internship. Females, people with disabilities and MISA bursary beneficiaries are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be willing and available to undergo required structured training, deployment and rotation to district municipalities and private sector (consultancies leading towards professional registration).

MISA does not guarantee post-internship employment to graduates owing to participation in the programme.

Eligibility

University and University of Technology graduates meeting the minimum academic requirements in the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering: BTech Degree / BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering: BTech Degree / BSc / BEng in Electrical Engineering
  • Town & Regional Planning: BTech Degree / BSc in Town & Regional Planning
    (Eligibility to be confirmed by SACPLAN)
Requirements

Applicants must be unemployed graduates willing and available for a minimum 36-month post-graduation workplace experience deployment within the nine provinces.

Applicants must be South African citizens.
