KZN COGTA: Internship & WIL Programme Applications Open

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs invites unemployed graduates and students to apply for its Developmental Programmes for the 2026–2028 financial years. These programmes are aimed at providing practical workplace experience to young people from KwaZulu-Natal who have completed relevant qualifications or who require Work Integrated Learning (WIL) as part of their studies. The initiatives are designed to enhance skills, improve employability, and contribute to human capital development within the province.

Position: Graduate Internship Programme and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme

Duration:

  • Graduate Internship Programme: 24 months
  • Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme: 12 to 18 months

Closing Date: 28 January 2026

The Graduate Internship Programme offers a 24-month opportunity for qualifying graduates, while the Work Integrated Learning Programme provides placement for a period of 12 to 18 months for registered students. Successful applicants will gain exposure within various fields aligned to their qualifications and will be supported through structured learning and workplace mentorship. Preference will be given to applicants with disabilities, in line with the department’s commitment to inclusive development.

1. GRADUATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is offering the Internship Programme for a period of 24 months to unemployed graduates.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants must be from KwaZulu-Natal (proof of residence to be attached: Ward Councillor letter, Municipal Bill or Affidavit).
  • Applicants must be unemployed and must not have participated in an Internship Programme from any Government Department.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed a 3 or 4 year qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • The qualification must be in one of the fields listed below.

2. WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING PROGRAMME (WIL)

Period: 12 to 18 months

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants must be from KwaZulu-Natal (proof of residence to be attached: Ward Councillor letter, Municipal Bill or Affidavit).
  • Applicants must be registered with a recognized Institution of Higher Learning (a letter from the institution requesting WIL must be attached).
  • Applicants must be unemployed and must not have participated in a WIL Programme from any Government Department.
