Information Technology Internship – MQA

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) invites suitably qualified and unemployed individuals to apply for an IT Internship within the Information Technology Unit. This opportunity is open exclusively to South African citizens who have never previously participated in an internship programme and are seeking practical workplace experience in the information technology field.
The successful candidate will be appointed for a fixed period and will receive structured training and hands-on exposure across various IT functions. This internship is designed to support skills development, enhance employability, and provide meaningful workplace experience in a professional and supportive environment.

Programme Duration: Two-Year Programme (24 Months)

The successful candidate will be appointed for a period of twenty-four (24) months and will report directly to the Senior Manager: Information Technology.
Job Profile and Key Responsibilities
The intern will be expected to actively participate and gain practical exposure in the following areas:
- Assist with the maintenance of IT infrastructure in a Microsoft Windows environment, including capacity management, security, and network administration
- Assist with cloud services and Microsoft SQL database administration and maintenance for various information systems
- Provide first-line end-user support for all IT-related enquiries through the ICT Service Desk, including:
- Setup of new workstations (laptops, desktops, etc.)
- Windows applications and email configuration
- Antivirus software installation
- Password resets and system troubleshooting
- Assist with network and printer troubleshooting
- Assist with IT security administration, including backup and recovery, firewall, antivirus, and vulnerability solutions
- Provide remote IT support to end-users at regional offices
- Perform software installation and provide user training
- Provide general office administrative support
- Assist with business analysis and project coordination for the current IMIS/ERP Project
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
- National Diploma or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 in the Information Technology field
- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification in the same field will be an added advantage
