The GreenCape invites South African unemployed graduates to apply for Graduate Internship Programme for a period of 12 months (2025/2026)

Position: Graduate trainee

Contract Duration: 12 months from date of appointment

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Remuneration will be market-related, with the recognition that GreenCape is a not-for-profit organisation. Medical aid is offered as an employee benefit (subject to conditions).

The Sustainable Agriculture Programme:
The sustainable agriculture programme’s goal is to increase job creation and investment into the green technology and services that support the agricultural sector. We achieve this through a number of different activities: we perform demand creation activities (such as supporting farmers to become more water efficient and energy resilient) and we provide support to the sustainable agriculture sector (such as collecting and disseminating market intelligence and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship).

Graduate Trainee:
GreenCape is looking to recruit a smart, motivated individual who is aspiring to a future in the sustainable agriculture sector. This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical work experience and work with experts in the field. The successful graduate will be selected to join the sustainable agriculture team where they will be able to gain experience and skills working on various projects with the team. The candidate must have a passion for the South African agricultural sector

  • Engineering (including chemical)
  • Science
  • Finance
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Agronomy
  • Crop/Soil Science
  • Extension and Production
  • Animal production or other relevant degree.
  • Post graduate degree preferred

Requirements:

  • No prior work experience is required
  • Postgraduate degree preferred
  • Interest in a career in the green economy
  • Computer literate – MS Office with a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Proven Troubleshooting and problem solving ability
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail
  • A record of publications in the sector (advantageous)
  • An existing network in the sector of interest (advantageous)

Responsibilities:
While developing skills in the sector, the graduate’s primary role is to support the programme in delivering key project deliverables and supporting its obligations with strategic partners.

The graduate’s core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in weekly team meetings
  • Supporting the team with meeting project deliverables
  • Conducting market research and data collection as required
  • Report writing
  • Assisting with reports (data, analysis etc.)
  • Working on the CRM system, Zoho
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Supporting event coordination where required
  • Managing databases
  • Assisting with updating weekly insights
  • Reviewing documents or assisting with preparing documents for funders
  • Assisting with programme admin.

Contract length and remuneration
This is a full-time contract position, until 31 March 2026. This contract may be renewed to a longer duration subject to GreenCape’s standard contracting conditions. Contract renewal will depend on performance and the organizational requirements at the time. There will be a three-month probation period for this position.
