EC Treasury: External Bursary Applications Now Open for 2026

The Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury invites eligible students to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. The programme aims to support dedicated learners from the Eastern Cape who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in priority fields such as Economics, Accounting, Information Technology, Internal Auditing, and Supply Chain Management. The initiative is designed to strengthen critical skills within the province while empowering young people, especially those who remain underrepresented and come from financially disadvantaged households.

The bursary opportunity is open to South African citizens residing in the Eastern Cape who have achieved the required National Senior Certificate results and secured admission to a recognised public tertiary institution. Applicants must demonstrate financial need through household income documentation and submit all required supporting documents, including academic results, proof of residence, and certified identification. Preference will be given to applicants living with disabilities, and all submissions must be completed before the closing date of 31 January 2026.
INVITATION FOR SUBMISSION OF EXTERNAL BURSARY APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2026 ACADEMIC YEAR
The Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury has identified strategic training and development needs which, if addressed, will enhance its core business skills capacity. To respond to these needs and to strengthen departmental service delivery interventions, the bursary scheme will prioritize training and development in the following areas: Financial Management, Financial Management Systems, Accounting, and Economic Policy Research and Analysis. Consequently, the department intends to offer full-time bursaries for qualifying external applicants. Preference will be given to youth and students who remain underrepresented in the department’s previous bursary awards.
CATEGORY OF BURSARY AWARDS FOR 2026
When awarding bursaries, the department will prioritize those pursuing or wishing to pursue undergraduate qualifications in the following fields:
- Economics
- Financial Accounting
- Cost and Management Accounting
- Financial Information Systems
- Information Technology
- Internal Auditing
- Supply Chain Management
REQUIREMENTS:
The following are the minimum requirements for the awarding of a bursary:
- The applicant must be a South African citizen and a resident of the Eastern Cape Province.
- The applicant must have obtained a National Senior Certificate with admission to a bachelor’s degree or a national diploma.
- The applicant must be studying towards an undergraduate degree or a national diploma and must have passed all Level 6 or Level 7, with a minimum of 360 credits.
- Proof of acceptance or registration with a public tertiary institution must accompany the application.
- The applicant must be in financial need, as demonstrated by proof of the family’s income.
- The household income should not exceed R467,790 per annum.
- The applicant must have obtained the following minimum achievement levels in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) subjects, if applicable:

- Letter of admission from relevant academic institution
- SA ID
- Final results
- Parents/guardian proof of income
- Proof of residence
