Position Overview
This 12-month internship offers practical experience in regulatory compliance within the financial services and insurance sector. The successful candidate will join the Compliance and Legal team and gain hands-on exposure to key compliance and legal functions. The role provides valuable insight into financial services legislation, including but not limited to FAIS, POPIA, FICA and the Insurance Act.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage the complaints process, ensuring timely resolution and accurate record-keeping
- Support FAIS oversight of sales teams’ fit and proper requirements
- Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements
- Coordinate and track compliance training programmes
- Perform compliance monitoring activities in line with the annual compliance plan
- Test controls and identify compliance gaps
- Draft and maintain compliance management reports for internal and regulatory use
- Contribute to policy reviews and assist with implementing compliance frameworks
- Assist with information requests from regulatory bodies such as the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Prudential Authority
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Degree in LLB, BCom Law, Compliance, Risk Management or a related qualification
- Advantageous: Completed Compliance Certificate
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copies of qualifications
- Curriculum Vitae and motivational letter
- South African citizen aged between 18 and 35 years
- Must not have previously completed a SETA or Government-funded internship
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High level of determination, proactivity and willingness to learn
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to support sales teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems
