Position: Internship: Policy and Projects

STUDENT INTERNSHIP: CIRCULAR 001/2025

Remuneration:
(Qualification completed with min 360 credits): R9 960,45 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits) OR

Department: Environmental and Infrastructure Service

Branch: Waste Management and Regulation

Location: Traduna House, 118 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein

Closing Date: 30 January 2025

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (NQF level 4) plus Degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Environmental Science or closely related disciplines (NQF level 7).
  • Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.

Primary Function:
Manage the process of development and implementation of waste management policies, strategies and plans for sustainable waste management services across the City to achieve the City’s strategic objectives of integrated waste management. Manage the planning and implementation of sustainable waste projects

Key Learning Areas:

  • Waste management planning to ensure legislative compliance and that waste is managed in an environmentally sustainable manner;
  • Stakeholder management to ensure community buy-in and participation in the City’s waste management initiatives;
  • Coordinate and provide input into the Management of Business Planning, Reporting on Project progress and Financial Management activities of the Business Unit;
  • Risk management is used to ensure monitoring, reporting on risk, and providing mitigation measures within the section;
  • Project management of the entire project development cycle and ensuring successful project execution.

Leading Competencies:

  • ICT literacy, including MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Project Management

Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and relevant legislation;
  • Proven record in the field of environmental capacity building and running of waste policies and projects;
  • Understanding environmental policies and project principles and approaches.
