The Council for Geoscience (CGS) invites suitably qualified university students to apply for a full-time bursary for the 2026 academic year. This bursary is aimed at supporting studies in key geoscience and related fields, including geology, geophysics, hydrogeology, environmental science, geo-informatics, data science, and other specialised disciplines. The programme seeks to develop skilled professionals who can contribute to scientific research, innovation, and sustainable solutions to real-world geoscience challenges in South Africa.
The bursary provides comprehensive financial support, covering tuition and registration fees, accommodation or transport allowances, prescribed books, meals, field excursions, and a once-off laptop allowance for first-time bursars. Applicants must be South African citizens, enrolled full-time at a recognised South African institution of higher learning, and meet the academic requirements set by CGS. Preference may be given to previously disadvantaged applicants, and only complete applications submitted by the closing date will be considered.

ABOUT THE COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE
The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is mandated to collect and curate all geoscience data in South Africa, both on and offshore. It aims to use these data to find meaningful geoscience solutions to respond to real-world challenges. With its Head Office situated in Silverton Pretoria, the CGS takes pride in having and building a winning team of scientists within the various fields of geoscience.

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) herewith invites University students to apply for a full-time CGS bursary for the 2026 academic year.
The objective of the CGS bursary is to create, enhance and support expertise in the geosciences and related technical fields.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Not employed and available for vocational work during studies and work back upon completion of studies, when required
- Have enrolled full-time at a South African institution of higher learning for the 2026 academic year
- For students currently at an institution of higher learning, must have passed all the modules of the previous year/semester

- NB: Late submission and failure to submit the required documentation will lead to the disqualification of the application.
