King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality invites interested and suitably qualified applicants residing within the municipal area to apply for Employment Equity and Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) vacancies. The available opportunities are in the Technical Services, Community Services, and Public Safety departments, with successful candidates appointed on a 12-month EPWP employment contract.

The vacancies are open to local residents within the KSD jurisdiction, including Mthatha and Mqanduli. The recruitment process supports temporary employment while contributing to the delivery of essential municipal services. Preference will be given in line with the Employment Equity Act and the municipality’s approved Employment Equity Plan.

1. EPWP General Workers – Technical Services
  • Department: Technical Services
  • Number of Posts: 110
  • Employment Type: Twelve (12) Months EPWP Employment Contract
  • Salary: R150.00 per day
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be in sound mental and physical health.
  • Must be willing and able to perform strenuous physical activities.
  • Must be between 18 and 59 years of age.
  • Must be able to use hand tools.
  • Must be able to enter and work inside a 600mm stormwater pipe.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Must reside within the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality.
Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be responsible for duties that include:

  • Receiving lawful instructions from supervisors.
  • Cleaning work areas before commencing projects.
  • Digging and backfilling trenches.
  • Packing stock into stores when required.
  • Performing general cleaning duties.
  • Loading and offloading construction materials.
  • Cleaning and storing equipment after use.
  • Carrying out additional duties within the Technical Services Department.

2. EPWP General Workers – Community Services
  • Department: Community Services
  • Number of Posts: 110
  • Employment Type: Twelve (12) Months EPWP Employment Contract
  • Salary: R150.00 per day
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Must be in sound mental and physical health.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physically demanding duties.
  • Must be between 18 and 59 years of age.
  • Must be able to use hand tools.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Must reside within the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will perform duties that include:

  • Receiving instructions from supervisors.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of parks, public spaces and coastal areas.
  • Operating tools such as lawn mowers, trimmers, slashers, rakes and brooms.
  • Performing gardening and landscaping duties.
  • Collecting litter from public areas.
  • Assisting with refuse collection from residential and business premises.
  • Performing additional duties within Community Services.

3. EPWP Traffic Services
  • Department: Public Safety
  • Number of Posts: 20
  • Employment Type: Twelve (12) Months EPWP Employment Contract
  • Salary: R150.00 per day
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Grade 12.
  • Certificate in Traffic Safety and Municipal Police.
  • Traffic Diploma accredited by the Institute of Traffic and Municipal Officers of Southern Africa (NQF Level 5) will serve as an added advantage.
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence or higher.
  • Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Registration as a Traffic Officer.
  • Must be between 18 and 59 years of age.
Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Control traffic flow and promote road safety.
  • Patrol municipal areas.
  • Respond to incidents involving traffic and public safety.
  • Enforce municipal by-laws and road traffic legislation.
  • Carry out vehicle and equipment inspections.
  • Complete administrative reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Perform traffic officer duties in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act No. 93 of 1996.
Employment Equity

The recruitment process supports employment equity and aims to address previous imbalances relating to race, gender and disability. Preference may be given to suitably qualified candidates from designated groups, particularly women and persons with disabilities.

The municipality also aims to contribute towards EPWP demographic targets that include women, youth and persons with disabilities.

  • Certified copies of qualifications (not more than five).
  • Academic record.
  • Certified copy of the Grade 12 certificate.
  • Certified copy of South African Identity Document.
  • Certified copy of driver’s licence where applicable.

Applicants with foreign qualifications must also submit a valid SAQA evaluation certificate.

Important Information

Applications submitted after the closing date or without the required certified supporting documents will not be considered.

Appointment to any advertised post will be subject to pre-employment screening, including qualification verification, criminal record checks, previous employment reference checks and competency assessments where applicable.
