The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the vacant positions listed in the latest recruitment advertisement. Position: Accounting Clerk (Batch Controller)

Requirements:

  • A National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
  • No prior work experience required
  • A valid driver’s license will count as an advantage
  • Knowledge of a financial environment is an advantage
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer literacy and the ability to multi-task

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the State Accountant, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safekeeping and management of documents through batch control. This includes monitoring and enforcing sound accounting practices, prescribed policies, and regulations across all transactions, as well as controlling documents related to various transversal systems. Duties also include ensuring correct allocation of expenditure and revenue, drawing financial and other BAS reports, assisting with budget formulation and cash flow budgeting, monthly reporting, and cashier-related functions.

Position: Admin Clerk: Facilities Management

Requirements:

  • Good telephone etiquette and demonstrated computer literacy
  • Basic understanding of relevant legislation and financial administration
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisational and people skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at different levels
  • Basic numeracy and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to act with tact and discretion
  • Willingness to adapt work schedules according to office needs

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will coordinate and record complaints, ensuring they are logged and addressed through the Archibus and Workx4u systems. Duties include capturing quotations, following up with Works Managers, checking quotations against complaints, and administering and capturing payments. The role also covers processing invoices, ensuring the department adheres to 30-day payment terms for service providers, compiling reports and forms for approval, and providing general clerical, supply chain, and personnel administration support within the component. This includes maintaining filing systems, leave registers, and personnel records.

The Z83 form must be signed, initialled, and dated by the applicant and be accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) only. Certified copies of qualifications and other supporting documents are not required when applying. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents, not older than six months, on or before the interview date.

Applications submitted using the incorrect or old Z83 application form will be disqualified. Applicants must ensure that Parts A and B of the Z83 form are fully completed. For Parts C to G, applicants may refer to their CV where sufficient information is provided. Page 1 of the Z83 form must be initialled, while page 2 must be signed and dated. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in disqualification.
