Requirements

Requirements

Short-listed candidates will be required to produce original documents, including an ID, Senior Certificate, all educational qualifications, service certificates, and a driver’s license where applicable, before the interview. Qualifications and licenses will be verified with the relevant institutions.

Candidates must have no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal or departmental cases, and will be subject to fingerprinting and background checks. Short-listed candidates may undergo a full security clearance process, including vetting, security screening, and reference checking. All short-listed candidates will undergo a personal interview along with two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity assessment.

Candidates for certain posts will be screened against the National Register for Sex Offenders and the Child Protection Register in terms of relevant legislation. Disclosure of any protection order under the Domestic Violence Act or Protection from Harassment Act is required, and may affect eligibility.

New appointees will be required to provide a buccal (cheek swab) sample for a forensic DNA profile, in line with the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act. Appointments are made under the Public Service Act, 1994. Persons who retired via severance package, early retirement, or medical retirement, as well as those with previous convictions, are excluded from consideration.
