The Limpopo Provincial Government, through the Department of Transport and Community Safety, is inviting eligible South African youth to apply for 204 Traffic Learner Officer Learnership opportunities. The programme offers unemployed young people the opportunity to receive structured training that prepares them for a career in road traffic law enforcement.
The learnership will run for 12 months and successful applicants will undergo intensive academic, practical, and physical training at the Traffic College. Candidates who complete the programme successfully will gain valuable knowledge and practical experience in traffic law enforcement, road safety, and public service.
This recruitment forms part of the Department’s Employment Equity Plan and aims to provide opportunities to young South Africans while promoting transformation within the public service.

About the Learnership
The Traffic Learner Officer Learnership has been developed to equip unemployed youth with the knowledge, skills, discipline, and practical experience required to perform the duties of a Traffic Officer.
During the programme, learners will receive professional training covering traffic legislation, road safety, law enforcement procedures, communication, vehicle inspections, accident management, and other operational functions. Training also includes physical fitness programmes designed to prepare learners for the demands of the profession.
Successful completion of the programme does not automatically guarantee permanent employment. The learnership is intended to develop skills and improve employability while preparing candidates for future opportunities within the traffic law enforcement environment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements before applying:
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 qualification recognised by SAQA.
- Be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Possess a valid driver’s licence.
- Have no criminal record.
- Have no visible tattoos.
- Be medically fit.
- Be mentally fit.
- Be physically fit to undergo the training programme.
- Not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of the Firearm Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000) or any other relevant legislation.
Failure to meet any of the minimum requirements may result in the application being rejected.

Duties During the Learnership
Learners selected for the programme can expect to participate in various training activities, including:
- Attending classroom-based theoretical training.
- Completing practical traffic law enforcement exercises.
- Participating in road safety awareness programmes.
- Learning road traffic legislation.
- Receiving firearm-related training where applicable.
- Conducting vehicle inspections under supervision.
- Learning accident scene management.
- Performing administrative duties related to traffic law enforcement.
- Participating in physical fitness programmes.
- Completing all required assessments throughout the learnership.
Physical Fitness Requirements
Traffic law enforcement is physically demanding. Successful applicants should be prepared to participate in strenuous physical activities throughout the twelve-month training period.
Candidates should ensure they maintain a good level of physical fitness before reporting to the Traffic College.

Application Process
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety is inviting unemployed South African youth to apply for the Traffic Learner Officer Learnership Programme. Applications are open to young people from all race groups. In line with the Department’s Employment Equity Plan, particular encouragement is given to White, Coloured, and Indian applicants to apply for these available learnership opportunities.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications online through the Limpopo Provincial Government e-Recruitment portal at https://erecruitment.limpopo.gov.za. Those who prefer to submit a manual application may hand deliver their documents using the prescribed New Z83 Application Form. The form can be obtained from any Government Department or downloaded from www.gov.za or www.dpsa.gov.za.
Applications submitted by email or fax will not be accepted under any circumstances. Applicants submitting hand-delivered or mailed applications must ensure that they follow all the instructions provided by the Department to avoid disqualification.
The New Z83 Application Form must be fully completed and signed by the applicant before submission. Parts A, C, and D of the form must be completed in full. Part B must also be completed, except where specific questions do not apply to the applicant. For example, applicants who answer “No” to the question regarding conducting business with the State or being a director of a company doing business with the State may leave the follow-up question about relinquishing business interests blank or indicate “Not Applicable.” Applicants whose profession does not require official registration may also leave the registration details section blank.
Where there is insufficient space in Parts E, F, and G of the Z83 form, applicants may indicate “Refer to Curriculum Vitae (CV)” or “See attached CV.” The attached CV must contain all the required information because it forms an extension of the application form. Failure to provide all the necessary information in the CV may result in the application being disqualified. Applicants remain responsible for ensuring that all information submitted is complete and accurate.
Questions contained in Part F of the Z83 form relating to conditions that may prevent appointment into the Public Service must be answered by selecting Yes or No. If a particular question does not apply, applicants may indicate N/A.
Applicants must ensure that the correct post reference number, LDTCS L 1/5/2026, is clearly entered in the Reference Number section of the New Z83 Application Form. Failure to quote the correct reference number may delay the processing of the application or result in the application not being considered.
Only shortlisted candidates will proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process. In accordance with the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) Directive on Human Resource Management and Development for Public Service Professionalisation, shortlisted applicants will be required to complete two compulsory pre-entry assessments. These assessments consist of a practical exercise and an Integrity (Ethical Conduct) Assessment.
Shortlisted candidates will also undergo qualification verification, security clearance, and Personnel Suitability Checks before any appointment can be made. These checks form part of the Department’s recruitment process to ensure that successful candidates meet all the required standards.
Candidates invited for interviews must present a medical certificate confirming that they are physically fit and mentally stable to participate in strenuous physical activities. They must also bring certified copies of their educational qualifications, a certified copy of their South African Identity Document, and a certified copy of a valid driver’s licence.
Successful applicants will undergo intensive physical training at the Traffic College for the full twelve-month duration of the learnership. The programme includes strenuous physical exercise designed to prepare learners for the demands of traffic law enforcement duties.
Applicants should also be aware that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this learnership. The Department does not charge application fees, and any request for payment in exchange for employment should be treated as fraudulent and reported to the relevant authorities.
