Qotho Minerals Vacancy: Quality & Laboratory Intern

Qotho Minerals (QM) is inviting unemployed individuals to apply for its Internship Programme, which lasts for 12 months and is based in Broederstroom, North West. Selected individuals will work closely with the Quality Manager, gaining exposure to ISO standards such as 17025, 17034, and 17043, and will actively participate in routine quality system support and laboratory production processes, including document control, sample preparation, and quality assurance or control activities. Applicants must have a completed three-year tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Food Science, Geoscience, or a related natural science field. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, while skills in laboratory techniques and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) are advantageous.

About the Job: This internship provides a foundational experience in a high-standard quality environment, directly supporting the Quality Manager. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to the practical application of ISO standards (17025, 17034, 17043) within Proficiency Testing (PT) and Reference Material (QRM) production. The role is ideal for a science graduate eager to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world quality management and laboratory processes.
Key Relationships/Interactions:
Under the direct mentorship of the Quality Manager, the intern will assist with:
Quality System Support:
- Assist with document control processes, including the filing, distribution, and tracking of quality records, procedures, and amendments.
- Support the preparation and organisation of materials for internal and external audits.
- Assist in logging and tracking non-conformances, corrective actions, and vendor evaluations.
Laboratory & Production Support:
- Perform basic analytical chemistry and sample preparation tasks under supervision, to support production and quality control.
- Assist in the monitoring of production floor QA/QC activities, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Support the PT and QRM production teams with sample preparation, labelling, and record-keeping.
Data Management & Analysis:
- Use MS Excel to compile, process, and present data from laboratory tests and production processes.
- Assist in the preliminary analysis of data for homogeneity and stability studies.
- Help generate basic quality control charts and reports for review by the Quality Manager.
Educational Requirements:
Education: A completed 3-year tertiary qualification (e.g., National Diploma, BSc) in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Food Science, Geoscience, or a related Natural Science field.
Technical Skills:
Essential: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and presentation.
Advantageous: Understanding of basic laboratory techniques and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
