uMngeni-uThukela Water: Learnership Programme 2025/2026

uMngeni-uThukela Water invites unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 to apply for an exciting one-year Learnership Programme aimed at developing skills for a career in the water industry. This opportunity is designed for dynamic individuals who have successfully completed their Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science and reside in the deep rural areas of uMkhanyakude District or uMdoni Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. The programme offers a National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment at NQF Level 2, combining intensive theoretical training, classroom learning, practical work at water treatment plants in Richards Bay and Jozini, and the completion of a Portfolio of Evidence (POE).

The uMngeni-uThukela Water Training and Development Department, with support from the Operations Division, is offering a one-year Water & Waste Water Treatment Learnership for twenty candidates who have successfully completed their Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science and are interested in developing skills for the water industry. Responsibilities include intense theoretical and practical training, attending classes, completing a Portfolio of Evidence (POE), and conducting practical work at water treatment plants in the North East Region, specifically in Richards Bay and Jozini Water Treatment Plant.
Opportunities are available for dynamic and ambitious matriculants with the potential and interest to study water-related courses and work in the water industry. If you can study, learn, and work simultaneously, lack sufficient Matric points for tertiary-level entry, and have studied Mathematics and Physics at Matric level, you qualify to apply for this Learnership Programme at uMngeni-uThukela Water.
The programme offers a National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment at NQF Level 2, spanning one year.
Requirements:
- Proof of physical home address: a letter from the Traditional Authority Office for those residing in villages (this will be verified, and chancers will be disqualified)
- Certified Matric Mid-Term School report (must have completed Matric within the same district of residence)
- Certified copy of a valid South African ID document
- Matric certificate with Mathematics and Physics
- Motivation letter from the student

Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must be unemployed
- Must have studied Mathematics and Science at Matric level

- Applicants living with disabilities are encouraged to apply
- Note: This programme is not open to candidates who have completed any qualification at NQF Level 5 or above
- The programme is strictly for applicants from areas within uMngeni-uThukela Water’s jurisdiction (uMkhanyakude District and uMdoni Local Municipality)
